Heel pain: Is a common problem that can affect people of all ages. Heel pain can be caused by the way your feet move or by the way your legs and feet grow and develop. Also, it can result from an injury or a medical problem that affects your entire body. Your heel pain may have started days, weeks, or even months ago. At first you may have felt a dull ache that didn’t last, but now you may feel intense pain every day. For some people it is worse when you get out of bed in the morning or arise from a sedentary position, causing you to limp for a few minutes. For others it worsens as the day progresses with a continuous dull ache or sharp jab each time one takes a step. In any case, heel pain can make standing or walking unbearable. If treated early, proper education, exercise and therapy is all that is needed. However, sometimes splinting, immobilization, cortisone injections or even surgery may be required if conservative treatment fails.
